Introducing Marlowe 3.0 and the Author Dashboard

Today we’re excited to announce the public launch of Marlowe 3.0, the latest version of our artificial intelligence tool for authors, and our new Author Dashboard. (It’s available even to those who haven’t registered.)

Our team has been working on these changes for well over a year, and we’ve taken some additional time to roll out a number of new features.

Taken together, the new Author Dashboard powered by Marlowe 3.0 is the most comprehensive developmental editing tool on the market.

How can I say that? Because we’ve looked at what our competitors have built, and we’ve listened to early customers who have used Marlowe vs. other tools in the market. See some of the early feedback below.

Data-driven insights

The Author Dashboard goes far beyond the kind of static manuscript critiques you’ll find on other sites. Instead, it’s an interactive platform that gives authors real-time, data-driven insights on plot, pacing, characters, story arcs, theme, and much more. It can compare your work to thousands of bestselling titles, offering customized, actionable feedback designed to refine storytelling and elevate manuscripts to professional standards.

It short, the new Marlowe serves as your critique partner and writing coach. Instead of simply flagging issues, the new interactive tool guides authors toward the proven techniques of bestselling books. We’re able to help authors elevate their manuscripts to a professional, market-ready standard because of our database of thousands of bestsellers that we trained Marlowe on.

With this major update, Marlowe now delivers:

  • An online experience that allows authors to interact with their manuscript analysis in new ways.
  • Tailored feedback on your plot, including plot inconsistencies, unresolved plot threads, etc.
  •  An honest bottom-line assessment of your story plus top-line suggestions on how to strengthen it.
  • A breakdown of major points of concern or shortcomings.
  • An analysis of your story’s major elements, from the inciting incident and midpoint shift to the climax.
  • For the first time, an assessment of the character arcs of the major figures in your story, plus ideas of how to refine and develop them further.
  • An analysis of your novel’s POV, including revisions to consider.
  • An analysis of your story’s pacing, including specific recommendations on where to speed up and slow down the pacing.
  • An honest (but not cutting) appraisal of your author voice and prose style.
  • A breakdown of the major sources of conflict and narrative drive in your story.
  • A new analysis of your story’s major theme and subthemes.
  • An analysis of the setting in your story with revisions to consider.
  • An all-new final review checklist and a story structure section that offers story frameworks and outlines major genre conventions and tropes.
  • All your favorite features from past Marlowe reoprts, including readability scores, dialogue/narrative breakdown, a cliches finder, misspellings finder, naughty words finder, repetitive words, and more.

An ethical AI approach

Given all the misapprehension about the use of AI in the fiction space, it’s important to underscore some of the ethical standards we’ve laid out:

  • Our AI is designed to support, not replace, authors. To that end, we provide analytical feedback and we don’t use generative AI that displaces authors from the writing process.
  • All of the bestsellers in our database are rights-cleared. We use them for Marlowe’s analysis and for authors to compare their books to bestselling works.
  • We don’t use authors’ submitted manuscrips to train our AI.
  • We’re not a fly-by-night operation looking to make a quick buck. All of the founders and principals of Authors A.I. are bestselling authors or data scientists with impeccable academic credentials. See our team page.

A final feature is that we gave authors the option two paths to take: You can explore your report as a debut (beginning) author, covering the basics, or as an experienced author for a more streamlined experience.

Feedback from authors who tested the platform

Here’s what early users have to say:

Mary Louise Taylor wrote, “This report was fantastic. It is so hard to obtain meaningful feedback as an author and this helped me immensely.”

Christina Boufis wrote to us, “Honestly, I’m pretty blown away by Marlowe’s analysis. It really understood the themes, my voice, the characters, and its suggestions for revision were spot on and delivered in a friendly way. Pretty amazing and intuitive.”

Autumn James wrote, “I use ChatGPT for immediate feedback on my scenes, and ProWritingAid for grammar editing. I felt that Marlowe was better than both of these because of its more in-depth understanding of my manuscript.”

And E.G. Hash added, “This platform filled a crucial gap in my writing journey as a new author.”
