Authors A.I. launches artificial intelligence services for authors

Startup introduces membership plans for aspiring and established fiction authors

SAN FRANCISCO, June 8, 2020 – The new tech startup Authors A.I. launched its site today with a suite of artificial intelligence services tailored for the author community.

The site, at authors.ai, offers monthly and annual plans for both aspiring and published authors. Members can upload their manuscripts for an analysis by Marlowe, an A.I. program that provides a 26-page full-color critique of the work within minutes.

“We’ve been thrilled with the reactions we’ve been getting from authors during our beta testing,” said Alessandra Torre, Authors A.I. president and co-founder. “We decided the time is right to open our doors for business.”

Marlowe was created by co-founder Matthew Jockers, PhD, co-author of The Bestseller Code, along with a team of 125 bestselling authors behind the new startup. The A.I. technology examines a manuscript and provides feedback in these areas: plot structure, pacing, subject matter, story beats, major characters’ personality traits, clichés, potentially offensive language, reading grade level, complexity score, dialogue vs. narrative ratio, punctuation data, repeated usage of adverbs and adjectives, use of the passive voice and potential misspellings. It’s best used with long-form fiction.

In addition to its A.I. analyses, Authors A.I. is building out a knowledge base of author resources and community hub. It has just launched a public Facebook group at facebook.com/groups/AuthorsAI.

“Our goal is to help authors at all stages of their careers write captivating books and page-turners that find large readerships,” said Torre, a bestselling romance author. “And we’re also here as a support network to lend guidance and help to authors trying to make it through these difficult times.”

Marlowe, the company’s flagship service, generally emails her full-length report in as little as 15 minutes. An author can join one of two membership plans, starting at $9.95 and $29.95 per month, or choose to run a one-off report without joining. Authors who have begun using the services have been sending in accolades, which the AuthorsA.I. team have collected for a testimonials page.

Marlowe is named for both Christopher Marlowe, the Elizabethan tragedian who inspired Shakespeare, and Philip Marlowe, Raymond Chandler’s hardboiled private eye who plays chess and reads poetry. The founders have decided to personify her as a young woman.

Later this summer, the company plans to launch a second site, bingebooks.com, that connects readers with curated books and authors they’ll love. That site is now open to people who want to receive early notification of when it will launch.
