Authors A.I. asked its founding authors for tips on how to stay productive during the pandemic, whether you’re locked down, shut in or just don’t feel like having company over.

As one of the thriller authors on the team from the United Kingdom, I’ll tell you that our tactics don’t differ much from our Yank cousins. Most of us Brits (with some exceptions) appear to be taking the threat posed by the virus seriously, though we cope in different ways.

As an author who’s used to a good dollop of alone time even in normal times, my recommendations are simple enough. Get plenty of sleep. Use your time constructively. Find a way — online or in person (with responsible precautions) — to socialize with good friends.

I’ll be frank. I don’t think authors talk enough about self-care. We can be a solitary bunch sometimes, but reaching out to friends is great for your mental health, and theirs.

As for sleeping … maybe it needs a higher position on that list of things to do. You need to give your body a chance to recharge.
