As an author who is also the keeper of the family tree, I was intrigued by My Heritage’s announcement of their cool new visualization app late last month. Called Deep Nostalgia, it’s caused quite the sensation on social media, with TikTok users in particular uploading old family photos and watching them images come to life like something out of a Harry Potter novel.
Some people are freaked out by the whole thing, but I find it fascinating. In a couple of years, as with all things tech, we’ll find the whole thing a bit mundane as these kind of advances become engrained in our daily lives.
The technology, of course, can be used for just about any photos (though I do encourage you to use it for your family tree, as I’m doing). So I thought it would be interesting to see how some of our favorite authors might look in Deep Nostalgia, attached to some of their best writing advice. As for the authors themselves? I think they’d be bemused.

A final word: As authors, we respect copyright. Some of the imagery you see above is still under copyright. I have not included the original images here but only the transformed work used for editorial purposes. I hope you’ll be inspired to go forth and create your own works that live through the ages!
