How to apply the feedback is up to you

Marlowe's analysis is designed to provide actionable feedback that can improve your story's chance of commercial success. Our AI, trained by bestselling authors, editors, and data scientists, delivers targeted feedback to elevate your storytelling and help your work stand out. Marlowe’s insights are designed to get your manuscript in top shape before you share it with beta readers or editors. How you apply the suggestions is up to you — the goal is always to enhance your story and captivate readers.

When Marlowe finishes analyzing your manuscript, you can use the navigation menu at the left to jump around to any section in any order.

Marlowe Basic: A Marlowe Basic report will analyze your work for its readability, dialogue vs. narrative ratio, use of clichés, repetitive phrases, explicit words, frequently used adverbs and adjectives, and misspellings. You’ll see the results in those sections.

Marlowe Pro: After you’ve run a few Marlowe Basic reports, you’ll likely want to unlock Marlowe’s full analysis of your novel by upgrading to Marlowe Pro. Think of Marlowe Pro as an advanced critique session with fellow writers. Our AI provides in-depth, actionable feedback on your story’s plot, characters, pacing, story beats, narrative drive, themes, setting, and author voice, along with key recommendations. While there is no single formula for great storytelling, this report draws from patterns found in thousands of bestselling novels and reflects techniques that consistently attract broad audiences.

The Author Dashboard is your hub for feedback throughout the revision process. Upload early drafts, polished works, or works in progress — each analysis uses one credit and delivers insights tailored to that specific manuscript. Keep in mind that Marlowe provides a developmental edit, and it isn’t a tool for line-by-line edits.

How Marlowe works

Our researchers have spent years analyzing thousands of bestsellers, as well as clunkers, to identify patterns. Which ingredients propel one book onto the bestseller lists while other books languish? Subject matter, plot turns, pacing, character traits, and story structure all play essential roles. You still need to put artistry, heart, and emotional resonance into your work. But if you’re out to write a page-turner that readers can’t put down, add data science to your craft.

We respect authors’ IP

Marlowe is a homegrown analytical A.I., not a generative A.I. Marlowe provides editorial feedback for you, the author, to incorporate or not. We do not train our model on the manuscripts submitted by authors. All of the titles in the bestsellers corpus we created for comparative analysis were provided by the publishing houses, by the authors, or were purchased as a paperback and scanned in compliance with well-established copyright law. The founders of Authors A.I. are authors, too, and we respect the intellectual property rights of creators. For certain parts of this report, we partner with a small number of trusted small and large language models, resulting in a best-of-breed synthesis. In such cases, our company’s requirements to protect authors’ IP rights, privacy rights, and the security of uploaded manuscripts remain paramount and are similarly enforced.

Who we are

Authors A.I.’s three co-founders — Matthew Jockers, PhD, Alessandra (A.R.) Torre, and J.D. Lasica — are all bestselling authors who saw a need to harness the power of AI to help writers advance their careers. They were joined by 105 other bestselling authors as founding authors and shareholders in our Delaware C Corp. We are US-based and have excellent working relationships with all the major publishing houses as well as independent publishers. A note about the creative process

We understand there’s no One True Way to write a novel. Some authors outline, others don’t. Some rely extensively on AI, some are AI-adverse. At Authors A.I., we focus our efforts and development on assistive technology.

We don't use generative AI to write your novel for you. Our AI, Marlowe, offers suggestions about what works best in a bestseller — but we leave it up to your creative efforts on how and whether to incorporate the feedback.
